New "comfort woman" memorial in Manila
A new historical marker dedicated to Filipino "comfort women," who were forced to work in Japan's wartime military brothels, is unveiled at a church in Manila on Aug. 25, 2019. The memorial, consisting of a large granite monument with a metal plaque, was installed on the grounds of Baclaran Church without a 2-meter-high bronze statue of a woman that was supposed to serve as the centerpiece of the monument but went missing in mysterious circumstances in recent days.
