Huge Buddhist statue to be demolished

Photo taken from a drone on Aug. 28, 2020, shows a huge 100-meter tall Buddhist statue on Awajishima Island in Awaji, Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan. The statue, built in 1977 as a sightseeing spot but shut over 10 years ago, will be demolished in fiscal 2022 as there are fears it could collapse in view of cracks on the front side of the statue.
