Tsunami-hit school in northeastern Japan
Ukedo elementary school in the Fukushima Prefecture town of Namie is shown to the media on Sept. 4, 2020, ahead of the start of conservation work so the building, which was hit by the 2011 earthquake-tsunami disaster in northeastern Japan, can be displayed safely to the public. A government evacuation order was placed on the entire town following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant disaster until March 2017 when it was lifted in part of the town that includes the elementary school.
