Suga elected new head of Japan's LDP

High school students read an extra edition of a newspaper in front of JR Yuzawa Station in Akita Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on Sept. 14, 2020, after Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga was elected the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's president to succeed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Suga, hailing from Akita, is set to be appointed prime minister by parliament on Sept. 16.
