Prototype of Japan's new bullet train
A prototype of Japan's new shinkansen bullet train, dubbed ALFA-X, is pictured after arriving at JR Sendai Station in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on Oct. 27, 2020, for a test run by its operator East Japan Railway Co. JR East aims to begin commercial service of the new shinkansen by the spring of 2031 with a maximum speed of 360 kilometers per hour, 40 km faster than the current models.
