Japan lodges protest with S. Korea over "comfort women" ruling

South Korean Ambassador Nam Gwan Pyo leaves the Japanese Foreign Ministry in Tokyo on Jan. 8, 2021. By summoning the ambassador to the ministry, Japan lodged a protest the same day over a South Korean court ruling ordering the Japanese government to pay damages to former "comfort women" over their treatment at Japanese wartime military brothels.

              Thousands joined a pro-Palestine demonstration in Tokyo on Sunday, February 18, protesting Israel's ongoing attacks in Gaza and the intensifying strikes in Rafah. According to the organizers, around 2,000 people joined the protest. A global day of action were held in many cities worldwide on February 17, similarly supporting Palestine and calling for immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
