Japan lodges protest with S. Korea over "comfort women" ruling
South Korean Ambassador Nam Gwan Pyo leaves the Japanese Foreign Ministry in Tokyo on Jan. 8, 2021. By summoning the ambassador to the ministry, Japan lodged a protest the same day over a South Korean court ruling ordering the Japanese government to pay damages to former "comfort women" over their treatment at Japanese wartime military brothels.
