The Great Bell,Chion-in Temple

The big bell of Chion-in Temple is seen from the west side of the bell tower. Men and women in kimono are looking at the bell over the iron fence. Also called Yoshimizu's Bell, this is the largest bronze bell in Japan and was cast at Sanjo-Kamanza foundry in 1636. It is 5.4m high, 2.7m in diameter, 29cm thick, and weighs 7.5 tons. This is Kagami-ike (Mirror Pond) located at the southeast of Chumon Gate of Todaiji Temple. Since Mt. Wakakusa is visible afar, this is the view from the Nanboku (lit.
