In 1884, he sold the brewery, which was later reopened as the Japan Brewery Co., producers of Kirin Beer. The photo, taken from present-day Yamate Park, shows Mugita and Kashiwaba near Amanuma along the new road built for foreigners. The temple is actually Tozenji, located in present-day Takanawa 3-chome. The Shogunate concluded a treaty pact with Great Britain (Anglo-Japanese Treaty of Commerce) in 1858, and Tozenji Temple was designated as the site of the British Legation. This was taken by Swiss Pierre Rossier at the end of the Edo Period.           The Gojosaka area leading to Kiyomizu temple in the centre of the Higashiyama district of Kyoto City has many slopes and is best known for its climbing ceramic kilns.Many Kyoto dolls were made in Azuma and Shijo,Kyogoku, and some of rather mediocre quality were made to the west of Gojohashi.
