The houses on the left are of Moto Village, and the bridges are Maeda Bridge and Nishi Bridge. A cargo boat on the Nihonbashi River

View of Nihonbashi River looking west, taken from Nihonbashi Bridge. The river is busy with cargo boats. Mt. Fuji was visible from this spot on clear days. The left side of the river is Nishi-gashi (west riverside), and the bridge visible in the far right is Nishi (West) Bridge. This was a transitional period when land transportation was replacing water transportation, but at this time the canal still played a major role in transporting goods. The man and woman wearing bamboo hats and holding beads and bells appear to be pilgrims, but their religious affiliation is unclear. The Hakone Road

This is the view from the present-day Iriuda in Odawara City and Yamasaki in Hakone-machi when facing Yumoto. The road is Tokaido Highway (present-day National Route 1) and a cart, rickshaw, and pails are visible. Three children, possibly brothers and sister, are standing. The telegraph pole is on the right. This is the view from Shin-machi of the post town of Hakone when facing Hakone checkpoint. The mountain behind is Komagadake. The street where the palanquin men are is Tokaido Highway (present-day National Route 1). The house on the right is facing toward southwest and a child and an old man are enjoying the sun. Judging from their clothes, it appears to be either late autumn or early spring.
