UKIMIDO at KATADA
The Ukimido of Mangetsuji in Kashida, Otsu City. It is said to have been built by the priest Eshin during the Chotoku years (995-99) to pray for safety on the lake and the welfare of the people. It has been the theme of haiku and ukiyoe prints from ancient days, including a famous haiku by Matsuo Basho. The present Ukimido was rebuilt in 1937, and some details differ from the one in the picture.==Date:unknown, Place:Shiga, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number30‐7‐0]
