A deformed rock in Matsushima Bay

This is a magnificient view of the famous Zaimoku Island, an interesting geological arch formed by erosion. The layered sedimentary rock of this island teaches us much about the origins of Matsushima Bay. Unfortunately, the arch was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1969. This is a stereograph sold by Underwood & Underwood Co. Noge is one of the neighborhoods surrounding Yokohama. Shops selling commodities line the street, with signs advertising dried seaweed and tea. The main residences and villas of wealthy merchants as well as government residences are visible on the hill in the rear. The Hakone Road

This is the view from the present-day Iriuda in Odawara City and Yamasaki in Hakone-machi when facing Yumoto. The road is Tokaido Highway (present-day National Route 1) and a cart, rickshaw, and pails are visible. Three children, possibly brothers and sister, are standing. The telegraph pole is on the right. The telegraph lines that had started operation in 1872 between Tokyo and Nagasaki as well as the power lines that had started operation in 1900 can be seen. The building with the sign Uirau was a shop famous for medicine and sweets that opened during Soun Hojo's reign.
