Byobu torii gate at the approach to hakone shrine

This torii does not stand at present, only a monument next to a petrol station. But it was probably famous during the Meiji era, and many photos remain of this scene. A procession of mountain palanquins and umbrellas is seen, some of the people looking like soldiers. This is Kagami-ike (Mirror Pond) located at the southeast of Chumon Gate of Todaiji Temple. Since Mt. Wakakusa is visible afar, this is the view from the Nanboku (lit. South-North) approach to the temple when facing southeast. The stairs at west of Nakashima Island and a torii gate are present. Balcony of the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple seen from Okuno-in, facing west-northwest. Among the sightseers there are women with parasols. It is probably the beginning of summer because the trees are lush with leaves. The terrace was renovated in 1633. The building is in the yosemune style, and the roof is made entirely of hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side. Soryu Gate and Osugataiwa Rock at Haruna Shinto Shrine

The God of worship is Kasanreishin. The shrine building is of Gongen style rebuilt in the fourth year of Kansei (1792), and a rare rock called Osugata iwa stands in the background. The rock is seen in the center of the photo by the Soryu Gate further from the stone steps. Several people can be seen including priests.
