Shinobazu Pond

Benten-do on Nakanoshima and the path to it are seen at Shinobazu Pond. The Buddhist priest Tenkai modeled the pond after Lake Biwa and built the shrine to worship the deity Benzaiten of Chikubushima. The stone bridge was built between 1789 and 1801. A bronze ox at Kitano Shrine

An elderly woman prays for good luck by touching the bronze cow on a stone pedestal at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The statue was donated by shrine followers. The woman is wearing a hand towel on her head, holding a cane in her right hand, and touching the hind leg of the cow with her left hand. Early blooming plum trees are visible in the background. The shrine's guardian deity, the cow was regarded as a messenger of Sugawara-no-Michizane. This may have been taken by the British photographer H. G. Kinkakuji Temple

The Golden Pavilion at Rokuon-ji Temple seen from the eastern edge of Kyoko Pond, facing west-northwest. The rock on the left is Hosokawa-ishi, and Ashihara Island is visible behind. The temple was built in 1398 but destroyed by arson in 1950. Unlike the reconstructed building of today, the original roof was supported by many columns at each level. A shrine in Fujisawa

This is the head temple of the Jishu sect of Buddhism founded by Ippen. The official name of the temple is Totakusan Muryokoin Shojokoji Temple.
