The grounds of Nishi Honganji Temple, looking from the southeastern side of Goei-do facing north-northwest. The buildings are (from the left) the Goei-do (Taishi-do) and Amida-do (Main Hall). A mizubuki gingko tree is visible. The Goei-do was built in 1636 and the Amida-do in 1760. These two buildings are connected by an arcade.       An elderly woman prays for good luck by touching the bronze cow on a stone pedestal at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The statue was donated by shrine followers. The woman is wearing a hand towel on her head, holding a cane in her right hand, and touching the hind leg of the cow with her left hand. Early blooming plum trees are visible in the background. The shrine's guardian deity, the cow was regarded as a messenger of Sugawara-no-Michizane. This may have been taken by the British photographer H. G.           The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G.             Taishi-do of Higashihonganji Temple is viewed from the southeast. There are many children around the big water fountain. The Taishi-do took 15 years to build. It was completed in 1895 according to the wishes of the head priest, Otani Kosho. Built in single-story irimoya style with a tiled roof, it is 76m wide, 56m deep, 38m high, and covers 3,800 square metres.               The Golden Pavilion at Rokuon-ji Temple seen from the eastern edge of Kyoko Pond, facing west-northwest. The rock on the left is Hosokawa-ishi, and Ashihara Island is visible behind. The temple was built in 1398 but destroyed by arson in 1950. Unlike the reconstructed building of today, the original roof was supported by many columns at each level. Water weeds fill the surface of the pond. Pine forest surrounds the area. The background is unclear due to the poor colouration.                   Balcony of the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple seen from Okuno-in, facing west-northwest. Among the sightseers there are women with parasols. It is probably the beginning of summer because the trees are lush with leaves. The terrace was renovated in 1633. The building is in the yosemune style, and the roof is made entirely of hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side.                     This is the Ryukoji main hall completed in 1832, a wooden building roughly 22 metres wide and 27 metres deep. The official name of the temple is Jakkozan Ryukoji. Both the lanterns at the bottom of the stairs and the washing place on the right exist today. Shichimendo is visible above the stairs on the left. It was built in the early Edo Period to enshrine Shichimen Daimyojin of Mt. Minobe-Shichimen-zan.
