Katase

This photograph was taken from Shichimendo in the precincts of Ryukoji Temple. The roof of the main hall is visible to the lower right and the Sanmon (main gate) to the lower right. This was the location of an execution site called Tatsunokuchi during the Kamakura Period.             The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G.                   Balcony of the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple seen from Okuno-in, facing west-northwest. Among the sightseers there are women with parasols. It is probably the beginning of summer because the trees are lush with leaves. The terrace was renovated in 1633. The building is in the yosemune style, and the roof is made entirely of hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side.                     The Golden Pavilion at Rokuon-ji Temple seen from the western edge of Kyoko Pond, facing north-northeast. The shrubbery on the right is Ashihara Island. The temple was built in 1398. Unlike the building of today, the original roof was supported by many columns at each level. A man enjoys a boat ride on the pond.                       Tatsuno-dera Temple,Katase

                      This is the Ryukoji main hall completed in 1832, a wooden building roughly 22 metres wide and 27 metres deep. The official name of the temple is Jakkozan Ryukoji. Both the lanterns at the bottom of the stairs and the washing place on the right exist today. Shichimendo is visible above the stairs on the left. It was built in the early Edo Period to enshrine Shichimen Daimyojin of Mt. Minobe-Shichimen-zan.
