The same building is evident in the photograph album entitled Kakuchi Meisho ( Famous Places Here and There ) printed in 1893 for the Abe Family, former lords of the Fukuyama Clan.             Female pilgrims climb the stone steps to Kondo Hall at Nin'naji Temple. The photograph was taken facing east from the eastern approach to Kan'nondo Hall. The women wear zori slippers, hold long walking sticks, and carry something on their backs. The irimoya-style building in the rear may be a place for drinking water.                   Shinkyo Bridge spans Daiya River at the entrance to Nikko-Sannai. The bridge is also called Jabashi (Snake Bridge), referring to the legend that the priest Shodoshonin, when founding Nikko, crossed the river by walking over two big snakes released by Shinja-Daio. The bridge in this photograph was washed away by a flood in 1902.
