Enoshima Island

Enoshima Island

This photograph, titled Yenoshima, is said to have been taken by Shimooka Renjo (1823-1914). It captures the view from the pine forest at Katase at low tide. The sand dune stretches to Enoshima, and what seem like bridge beams are faintly visible. Chayamachi, the inn street, is in the centre of the island with Higashi-machi to the left. This may have been taken at the beginning of the Meiji Period.==Date:unknown, Place:Enoshima, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number64‐52‐0]
