This is the Sokokura Spa viewed from the opposite side of Jakotsu River, after crossing Mannen Bridge. The hip roof on the left is Jizodo (a temple hall where a Buddhist deity is enshrined). The house with a thatched roof before it is Yorozuya , Umeya is in front of that. The two-storied building on the right is Tsutaya. The house partially visible on the right is Sengokuya Inn. The roofs of these spa houses are thatched. The building is in the yosemune style, and the roof is made entirely of hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side.                   Main Hall and Worship Hall at Suwa Shrine

                  The buildings starting from the right are, Worship Hall, Norito-den Hall, and the Main Hall at Suwa Shrine. Worship Hall is where commoners would worship. The building is made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) in irimoya-zukuri style (a hip-and- gable roof construction) with a hiwadabuki-style roof (Japanese cypress hinoki bark thatching). The right, left , and front walls flip open upwards like awnings. The tablet was written by Sawa Nobuyoshi who became the Kyushu Pacification Officer in 1868. The floor of the Norito-den Hall connected to the passageway is tatami-covered. The building in the far left is the main hall rebuilt in 1869 after burning down in 1857.                     Hoko-ji temple was established by Hideyoshi Toyotomi (Shogun) in Higashiyama-ku,Kyoto-city and was imitated Nara Todai-ji Daibutsu-den. There was a great statue of Buddha, 20 meters in height, several earthquakes and thunderbolts had wreaked havoc on it. And also Daibutsu-den (the Hall of\r\nthe Great Buddha) had lost by fire in 1973. There is the Bonsho (a buddhist temple bell) inscribed Kokka Anko (May the State be peaceful and prosperous) and Kunshin Horaku (May the lord and\r\nvassal be rich and delight) in the precincts.
