This is a photograph by Felice Beato of Daikoji Temple. The man standing in front of the lantern on the left is Hikoma Ueno. Seven years later, Kuichi Ikeda would take a photo from exactly the same angle. Interestingly, he, also, had a man standing in the center (refer to Catalog No. 688, 3220, 3222, 3251).
