This is Nagasaki Port and Dejima viewed from behind Oura Church. The photograph is part of a stereo-photo series by Wilhelm Burger taken around 1868. The exterior wall of the back of the nave (the alter area) was semicircular at the time of the establishiment, and the pinnacles on the sides of the front of the church were already gone at the time of this photo. The big roof on the right is Myogyoji Temple.         This is the Sokokura Spa viewed from the opposite side of Jakotsu River, after crossing Mannen Bridge. The hip roof on the left is Jizodo (a temple hall where a Buddhist deity is enshrined). The house with a thatched roof before it is Yorozuya , Umeya is in front of that. The two-storied building on the right is Tsutaya. The house partially visible on the right is Sengokuya Inn. The roofs of these spa houses are thatched. Kotokuin Temple began to collect donations after receiving government permission to rebuild the Great Buddha Hall in 1879. The three signboards on the left may be lists of the names of donors. There is a shack to the lower right of the statue. Approximately 9 meters were added to the Oura Bund in 1864. The first customs office building can be seen at the foot of the protruding embankment in front of the Umegasaki Customs House.                   This photo captures the northern part of Nagasaki City and the entrance to Nagasaki Port taken from the mountain behind Fukusaiji Temple. The red brick building in the center is Nakamachi Church constructed in 1899 on the site where the residence of the lord of the Omura Domain used to be. Therefore, this photo is presumed to have been taken between 1896 and 1899 when the Fortress Zone Act was implemented and it was prohibited to take photos of Nagasaki city. The roof of the main hall of Fukusaiji Temple is visible at the bottom of the photo. The brick building on the right is the Tobacco Public Corporation.
