Shofukuji Temple, located on the hillside of present-day Hyogo Ward, is a leading monastery of the Myoshinji School, Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism. The huge cherry tree here was famous for its light pink blossoms and attracted many visitors along with the pure white cherry blossoms at nearby Jizoin temple.
