The shrine at the top of Mt. Atago
This seems to have been copied from the June 12, 1871 issue of The Far East, then tinted and sold as a photograph. The Far East, which later became a monthly illustrated magazine, was an English-language newspaper with photographs printed on albumen paper and glued to the pages. Each photograph was printed using natural light and so a variety of negatives was used. This photograph depicts seven children. The building in the back is Atago Shinto Shrine, the deity of which was worshipped for protection from fire.==Date:unknown, Place:Tokyo, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number90‐26‐0]
