Rokkaku-do

Rokkakudo Temple is seen looking northwest from the southeastern side of the temple grounds. The official name is Shiunzan Chohoji. It is an independent temple of the Tendai Sect. The common name Rokkakudo (Hexagonal Hall) comes from the hexagonal shape of the main hall. The main hall shown here was built in 1872. From the time of the Onin Rebellion (1467), this was a worship place for commoner and a community meeting hall.==Date:unknown, Place:Kyoto, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number90‐34‐0]
