Takadoro (ligthouse) at Sumiyoshi

The lighthouse at Sumiyoshi. It is said that that the lighthouse was built during the Kamakura Period, but the exact date is not known. It served over the years as a lighthouse and guardian of ships at sea and as a famous landmark of Sumiyoshi, and, at 16 metres tall, it commanded a spectacular view of Awaji Island. The lighthouse was moved to a spot 200m west of its original location in 1974.==Date:unknown, Place:Osaka, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number90‐36‐0]
