A mikoshi (portable shrine) of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

Interior view of the kairo (cloister) of the Upper Shrine. The cloister was rebuilt in 1828 and is now a National Important Cultural Asset. A beautiful design is painted under the eaves. Renovated in the beginning of the Showa Period, this building remains as a valuable source of information about the designs used from the Edo Period. The old name was Hachioji gu, and Sasaki Moritsuna organized a campaign to raise funds for building the shrine.                   Balcony of the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple seen from Okuno-in, facing west-northwest. Among the sightseers there are women with parasols. It is probably the beginning of summer because the trees are lush with leaves. The terrace was renovated in 1633. The building is in the yosemune style, and the roof is made entirely of hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side.
