Oura River and the foreign settlement
Looking upstream the Oura River. This photo was taken between 1864 and 1866. The two-storied western building on the right was owned by a Dutchman called J. Bruinier, the house next door was Smith Ship Chandler. The western-style building further down the street has a sign saying ‘Express’. On the left side of the river bank are, starting from the foreground, Oura No. 14 (leased out by Alt) and No. 15 (leased out by Glover). The building with the white walls is No. 29. Chinese people were living in all of those buildings.==Date:unknown, Place:Nagasaki, Photo:F. Beato, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images)
