Distant view of the Ryugumon Gate of Sofukuji Temple, Nagasaki

The Sofukuji temple gate is viewed from the precincts of Daikoji Temple. Sofukuji was established by Chinese residents of Nagasaki from the Fujian Province in 1642. It is a temple of the Obaku Zen Sect. The gate, first built in the single-tier Hakkyakumon style in 1673, was re-built in its present style in 1849. Built by Japanese master carpenter Ogushi Gorobei, it featured plastering over piled stones and tiles. Today, it is a nationally designated Important Cultural Asset.==Date:unknown, Place:Nagasaki, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number109‐28‐0]
