First rice planting in nuclear crisis-hit Fukushima town
Rice seedlings are planted on a trial basis at a paddy in Futaba, a Fukushima Prefecture town that co-hosts the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, on May 19, 2021, for the first time after the March 2011 nuclear disaster. The rice is scheduled to be harvested in the autumn to check its safety and will be disposed of after that.
