Kobe 'Luminarie' illuminations

KOBE, Japan - Illuminations surrounding a fountain, an artwork titled ''fountain of prayer'' and created to wish for the reconstruction of tsunami-hit areas in northeastern Japan, are lit in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in western Japan, on the night of Dec. 1, 2011, as the Kobe ''Luminarie'' illumination event started the same day. The annual event, which will be held until Dec. 12, commemorates the victims of the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake that devastated Kobe and its vicinity. (Kyodo)
