Statue of Okinawa fisherman unveiled in Taiwan
KEELUNG, Taiwan - People associated with Okinawa Prefecture pose in front of a statue of an Okinawa fisherman, called the statue of Ryukyu Uminchu, at a park in Heping Island, Keelung City, Taiwan, on Dec. 1, 2011, during the unveiling ceremony of the statue. During the Japanese colonial rule of Taiwan before World War II, a number of fishermen had emigrated from Okinawa Prefecture and lived there. (Kyodo)
