Blood test to detect 13 kinds of cancer

Care robot for dementia patients

TOKYO, Japan - A small robot designed to assist patients suffering from dementia is unveiled at the welfare ministry in Tokyo on Sept. 24, 2010. The care robot was jointly developed by a group led by the Research Institute, National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities.

New humanoid robot to tend bed-ridden patients

TOKYO, Japan - A humanoid robot created by researchers at the University of Tokyo tries to move a 60-kilogram dummy on a bed at an exhibition held at the university on March 28. Yasuo Kuniyoshi, a University of Tokyo professor who is leading the robot project, says the robot, which is 155 centimeters tall and weighs around 70 kg, is capable of lifting a 30-kg weight and researchers hope one day the robot would be able to attend to bed-ridden patients. JAXA successfully deploys antennas on satellite

TOKYO, Japan - The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency successfully deployed both antennas on Japan's biggest satellite Kiku No. 8 on Dec. 26, a day after one of them failed to unfold properly. The antennas, the two honeycomb-shaped panels measuring 17 meters by 19 meters shown on this illustrated file photo, are used to receive and transmit signals.
