Mayor remains opposed to radioactive waste disposal plan
KAMI, Japan - Mayor Hirobumi Inomata (L) of Kami, Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, confers with Senior Vice Environment Minister Shinji Inoue at the town hall on Aug. 20, 2014, over a plan to bury radioactive waste from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant at a Kami site for permanent disposal. In the prefecture, Kami remains opposed to the plan but two other places selected as candidate sites for lasting disposal have agreed to accept the plan in principle. (Kyodo)
