Gen. MacArthur lands on Leyte island in WWII
TOKYO, Japan - Gen. Douglas MacArthur, supreme commander of Allied Forces in the Southwest Pacific, walks in shallow waters on the Philippine island of Leyte in October 1944 after freeing the country from Japanese occupation. A ceremony was held in Palo on the island on Oct. 20, 2014, to mark the 70th anniversary of the pivotal "Leyte Landing" incident. (Kyodo)
