OSAKA, Japan - A terracotta figurine, which looks like it is smiling and deemed one of the oldest in Japan, was unearthed from a late fourth century tomb in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture, a local authority said as it was shown to reporters in Sakurai on Feb. 24, 2011. (Kyodo)

                  NARA, Japan, Jan. 7 Kyodo - The head of a Buddha statue (far R) is transferred to the Eastern Golden Hall of Kofukuji, a temple in the western Japan city of Nara, from its National Treasure Hall for the first time in 80 years on Jan. 7, 2017, as the treasure hall is closed for a year for seismic strengthening work. After being created in the Hakuho period from the 7th to 8th centuries, the statue was burned in a fire leaving only its head, a national treasure.

                      OSAKA, Oct. 1 Kyodo - Photo taken Oct. 1, 2015, at Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry K.K's store in the western Japan city of Osaka, shows a Mobile Suit Gundam figurine made of approximately 1,000 grams of solid gold. Produced in commemoration of the 35th anniversary in 2014 of the start of the popular televised sci-fi animation series, the figurine, which is not for sale, will be displayed at the company's outlets across Japan until November.
