Gov't to compensate for losses due to foot-and-mouth disease
TOKYO, Japan - Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Hirotaka Akamatsu briefs reporters on additional government measures over the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Miyazaki Prefecture at the farm ministry in Tokyo on May 21, 2010. The government will compensate farmers for slaughtered cows and pigs at market value, rather than uniform rates as initially planned. (Kyodo)
