Child allowance payments start in Japan
ASAHI, Japan - A mother checks the allowance she received under a new government program on June 1, 2010 at the Asahi town office in Toyama Prefecture. Seven municipalities in three prefectures became the first to distribute the allowances of 13,000 yen per child. The measure was a key pledge by the ruling Democratic Party of Japan. (Kyodo)
