Saving power in Japan

Saving power in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - People shop under dimmed lights in a branch of major supermarket chain Aeon Co., in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward, on July 1, 2011, with the sign saying the store will open at 8 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m. during the summer. Many Japanese businesses and households are saving energy as the government started restricting electricity consumption by large-lot users in eastern Japan the same day to avert power shortages in the wake of the March 11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.
