Ancient Korean books returned from France
SEOUL, South Korea - Ancient Korean royal books returned from France are displayed to the media at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul on July 18, 2011, a day before their public exhibition. The texts, featuring protocols of royal ceremonies and rites from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), were looted by French troops in 1866 when they invaded Ganghwa Island, west of Seoul, in retaliation for the persecution of French Catholic missionaries.
