Sunflower seeds sowed in Fukushima to lower radiation levels

FUKUSHIMA, Japan - Officials of the water works department of Fukushima City sow sunflower seeds on July 20, 2011 at a local plaza to lower the radiation level. The plaza is one of the so-called ''hot spots,'' where radiation levels are higher than other areas. Sunflower seeds are said to absorb radioactive substances. (Kyodo)
