26th anniversary of 1985 jumbo jet crash
UENO, Japan - Children blow bubbles to pray for the souls of the victims of the 1985 Japan Airlines jumbo jet crash before a monument, which was built for repose of their souls, on the crash site called the ''Osutaka Ridge'' in the village of Ueno, Gunma Prefecture, on Aug. 12, 2011, the 26th anniversary of the accident. All but four of the 524 passengers and crew members were killed as the Boeing 747 from Tokyo to Osaka crashed into the mountain in Ueno. It remains the worst single-aircraft accident in aviation history to date. (Kyodo)
