Banners for peace encircle A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Participants hold banners with messages of peace near Hiroshima's Atomic Bomb Dome at an event calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons on Aug. 1, 2010. Atomic bombing survivors, schoolchildren and others, who encircled the dome, tied 900 banners contributed from around Japan with ribbons and offered silent prayers to those killed by the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of the city, ahead of its 65th anniversary on Aug. 6.
