Ex-Japan Red Army member's life sentence to stand

Chinese court sentences Uyghur scholar to life in prison

On Sept. 23, 2014, the Urumqi People's Intermediate Court in the western China region of Xinjiang sentenced Tohti to life in prison for separatism, an unusually severe conclusion to a case that has drawn condemnation from around the world. The sentence, which includes the seizure of all of Tohti's assets, is the harshest punishment handed down to a Chinese activist in the recent past.

The Tokyo High Court decided June 7, 2012, to reopen a high-profile murder case in which Govinda Prasad Mainali was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing the woman in the apartment.
