U.S. naval ship visits Okinawan civilian port

MIYAKOJIMA, Japan - Lt. Cmdr. Andria Slough, captain of the minesweeper Defender of the U.S. Navy, speaks at Hirara port on Miyako Island, Okinawa Prefecture, on Sept. 21, 2010, after arriving in the southern Japan region. Slough said the visit, made despite local opposition to the use of a civilian harbor by a U.S. warship, was aimed at deepening the two countries' friendship. (Kyodo)
