Japanese singer Futaba to retire next year
TOKYO, Japan - Veteran Japanese singer Yuriko Futaba said at a news conference in Tokyo on March 17, 2010, that she will retire after a stage performance scheduled for March next year. The 78-year-old began her stage career at age 3 and had the hit song titled ''The mother at a wharf'' (Gampeki no Haha) featuring a mother waiting for her son's return at a wharf after World War II.
