King Olav V of Norway
King Olav V of Norway (1903 - 1991), born Prince Alexander Edward Christian Frederik to Prince Carl of Denmark and Princess Maud of Great Britain at Sandringham in Norfolk. He became known as Prince Olav when his father became King Haakon VII of Norway in 1905. A well-loved monarch, he reigned from 1957 to 1991. He was also a proficient athlete, excelling at ski-jumping and winning an Olympic gold in sailing at the 1928 Olympics. He was the last surviving grandchild of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra when he died in 1991.c.1940
