Skiing transforming from elitist to popular sport in China
BEIJING, China - Photo shows the newly built Nanshan ski grounds on the outskirts of Beijing. Skiing is becoming an increasingly popular sport in China, spreading rapidly among young, affluent white-collar workers. From a professional sport that counted only 200 or so competitive skiers about 10 years ago, the skiing population in China has grown to an estimated 1 million, as increasing affluence spawns more winter resorts in the nation.
