Matsushita shuts 2 China plants due to SARS

BEIJING, China - A female employee leaves Beijing Matsushita Color CRT Co. (BMCC), a local unit of Japan's Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., on May 20. Matsushita has been shut the plant down, aalong with Beijing Matsushita Lighting Co. Matsushita devises efficient fuel-cell cogeneration system

OSAKA, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said April 14 it has developed a fuel-cell cogeneration system with the highest efficiency of power generation. The system can convert up to 39 percent of energy, generated through a chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, into electricity during its peak power generation of 750 watts, Matsushita said. Matsushita expands Viera TV lineup

TOKYO, Japan - Seven new models of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.'s popular large-screen, flat-panel Viera televisions are displayed at a presentation in Tokyo on Aug. 9. Six of the models are plasma TVs with full high-definition specifications, ranging in size from 42-inch to 65-inch screens. Matsushita to sell world's 1st Blu-ray DVD recorder-player

TOKYO, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will market the world's first Blu-ray DVD recorders with replay functions on Nov. 15 in Japan, the company said on Sept. 20. The DMR-BW 200 and DMR-BR 100 will have a suggested retail price of about 300,000 yen and 240,000 yen, respectively. (Kyodo)
