China voices readiness to agree to sanctions against N. Korea
NEW YORK, United States - China's U.N. Ambassador Wang Guangya waves to reporters after a U.N. Security Council meeting at the U.N. Headquarters on Oct. 10. Wang expressed China's readiness to agree to some sanctions against its closest ally, North Korea, for Pyongyang's claim that it has conducted a nuclear test. ''I think there has to be some punitive actions, but also I think that these actions have to be appropriate,'' he said, referring to a draft resolution presented to the 15-member Security Council by the United States the previous day.
