Higher taxi fares in Nagoya
NAGOYA, Japan - A taxi company employee puts a new fare sticker on the side window of a taxi in Nagoya, where the starting fare went up to 500 yen on Oct. 19 for the initial ride of up to 1.3 kilometers, the first effective fare increase in 11 years. On the same day, the government announced a 7.2 percent hike in Tokyo taxi fares from Dec. 3, raising the starting fare for the first 2 km from 660 yen to 710 yen. (Kyodo)
