Queen crab for school lunch
TOYAMA, Japan - The Shinminato fishermen cooperative in Imizu, a fishing town on the Sea of Japan coast in Toyama Prefecture, is offering free queen crabs to sixth graders as a treat to local primary school students. The coop, which launched the annual queen-crab-for-school-lunch program in 2003, plans to give one crab to each of the 900 sixth graders in 16 local primary schools this year as well. On Oct. 5, the 23 sixth graders at the municipal Shimomura Primary School each got a queen crab for their lunch on Oct. 5, the first day of the crab lunch program this year. Kyodo)
